September 29, 2026
An Assam Rifles jawan was killed and four others were injured after a patrol team came under suspected militant fire along the India-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 6.30am near Nampong Nallah, where personnel of the 21 Assam Rifles were conducting patrol duties in an area where border-fencing work is underway. The deceased was identified as 42-year-old Havildar Jankhokai Kuki. The injured personnel were evacuated for medical treatment, with further details about their condition awaited.
Following the attack, security forces intensified operations in the surrounding area to locate those responsible. Preliminary reports indicated possible involvement of cadres belonging to the NSCN (K-YA), although officials have not yet formally confirmed the identity of the attackers.
The Changlang sector of the India-Myanmar border remains a sensitive security zone because of the presence and cross-border movement of insurgent groups. The incident has prompted increased vigilance in the area as security forces continue search and security operations.
The attack comes while authorities are undertaking efforts to strengthen surveillance and security along the international border through ongoing fencing and related infrastructure work.
