BJP HITS BACK AT RAHUL GANDHI OVER ATTACK ON EC AND SIR

September 24, 2026

NEW DELHI: The BJP on Thursday criticised Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi following his press conference attacking the government and the Election Commission over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari described Gandhi’s press conference as a “damp squib” and accused him of making what the BJP considers false claims. He also questioned Gandhi’s assertions about electoral outcomes and referred to the Congress’s repeated electoral victories in Rae Bareli as a counterpoint to the opposition leader’s allegations.

BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi also responded to Gandhi’s allegations, while the party continued to defend the Election Commission’s functioning amid reports of internal exchanges between the three election commissioners. BJP leaders have argued that the reported correspondence represented institutional deliberation rather than evidence of a formal split within the poll panel.

Gandhi has alleged that electoral processes were being compromised and has demanded accountability from the Election Commission. The BJP has rejected those allegations. The Election Commission has maintained that final decisions concerning SIR were taken unanimously, making the issue part of an ongoing political dispute over electoral-roll revision and the functioning of the poll panel.
