November 1, 2026
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has extradited Sourabh Chandrakar, the alleged promoter and key accused in the Mahadev online betting application case, from Oman to India, marking a significant development in the investigation into the transnational betting syndicate. The operation was carried out in coordination with other central agencies and through cooperation with the authorities in Oman.
Chandrakar is accused of being one of the principal figures behind the Mahadev Online Book betting network, which allegedly operated illegal betting platforms across India and generated proceeds running into thousands of crores of rupees. Investigators have been examining allegations of illegal gambling, cheating, money laundering and the movement of funds through complex financial channels.
The Mahadev App case has attracted nationwide attention because of the alleged scale of the betting operation and its connections across multiple jurisdictions. The CBI and the Enforcement Directorate have pursued investigations into the network, its financial transactions and the role of individuals suspected of facilitating its operations.
Indian authorities had been seeking Chandrakar’s return after he was detained in Oman following an international alert. His extradition follows sustained coordination between Indian investigative agencies and foreign authorities to bring accused individuals based overseas within the reach of the Indian legal system.
Chandrakar’s return is expected to facilitate further investigation into the alleged betting syndicate, including its financial structure, the activities of its associates and the suspected movement of proceeds across borders. The allegations against him will be examined through the legal process, and his guilt remains to be established by a court.
