CENTRE BARS USE OF PELLET GUNS FOR CROWD CONTROL AT JANTAR MANTAR
September 27, 2026
The Centre has directed Delhi security forces not to use pellet guns for crowd control during protests at Jantar Mantar, following controversy over their use during demonstrations in the capital earlier this year.
The directive comes amid continuing scrutiny of security arrangements at the protest venue. The Supreme Court’s high-powered enquiry committee is examining allegations surrounding the use of pellet guns, violence involving protesters and security personnel, and other incidents linked to the July demonstrations.
The Centre has also stressed the need for better coordination among Delhi Police and paramilitary forces deployed for crowd-management duties. The move follows concerns over the handling of protests and the use of force during previous confrontations at Jantar Mantar.
Authorities are expected to rely on other established crowd-management measures while maintaining security during future demonstrations at the central Delhi protest site.
