September 27, 2026
The Union Health Ministry has ordered an immediate change in the administrative arrangement at AIIMS Jodhpur amid an ongoing protest by resident doctors following the death of a resident doctor. The protesters have raised demands concerning institutional accountability and the welfare of resident doctors.
Under an order issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, AIIMS Jodhpur Executive Director Dr Goverdhan Dutt Puri has been directed to report to the ministry in Delhi with immediate effect and remain available for duties assigned to him.
Dr Sanjeev Sinha, Executive Director of AIIMS Jammu, has been given additional charge of AIIMS Jodhpur until further orders. The ministry has also directed the formation of a five-member faculty committee within five days to assist the executive director in matters relating to patient care, academic activities, and student and resident welfare.
The new administrative arrangement has been tasked with ensuring continuity of patient-care services, academic programmes, resident and student welfare, and other essential institutional functions while the situation at the institute remains under review.
