CJP ALLEGES DELIBERATE OBSTRUCTION AS LEADERS SAURAV DAS AND ASHUTOSH RANKA REMAIN IN CUSTODY

October 19, 2026

NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 19: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has alleged a conspiracy to keep its leaders, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, behind bars, intensifying its criticism of the authorities over the handling of their detention and bail proceedings.

The party has questioned the circumstances surrounding the delay in securing their release and alleged that procedural obstacles are prolonging their custody. The allegations have added to the political controversy surrounding the activists’ detention and the party’s campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Das and Ranka were detained following their protest at Jantar Mantar, where they allegedly entered the restricted protest site by scaling its locked gates. The incident led to proceedings over their peace bonds and their subsequent placement in judicial custody.

The CJP has maintained that the action against its leaders is connected to their protest over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The party has raised concerns about the exercise and its potential implications for voters’ rights.

The alleged conspiracy remains the party’s claim; the available account does not establish that the authorities deliberately obstructed the leaders’ release. The dispute continues to centre on their custody, the progress of the proceedings and the political confrontation surrounding the electoral-roll revision.
