CJP GIVES DELHI POLICE 24 HOURS TO BREAK JANTAR MANTAR PROTEST DEADLOCK

October 13, 2026

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Delhi Police to respond to its request for permission to hold a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

CJP co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka submitted an application at Parliament Street police station on Monday, seeking an official date for the proposed demonstration. Hours after the application was submitted, Jantar Mantar was removed from the list of designated protest sites.

Ranka asserted that peaceful protest was a constitutional right and could not be indefinitely denied. The party warned that if the police failed to respond within the stipulated period and allocate the venue, it would announce a new date for a mass demonstration.

The CJP also called for a reduction in the heavy security deployment in the capital, alleging arbitrary detentions and harassment of independent journalists. Ranka further claimed that security restrictions had disrupted public movement and caused financial losses to local businesses.

The standoff comes amid heightened security in Delhi. Six Metro stations were shut for 11 hours on Monday, inconveniencing commuters and employees in the Lutyens’ Delhi area. The party’s next course of action is expected to depend on the police response to its 24-hour demand.
