CJP SETS OCTOBER 10 DELHI MARCH AS ELECTORAL-ROLL DISPUTE FUELS FRESH PROTEST

October 3, 2026

Abhijeet Dipke announces a fresh demonstration at Jantar Mantar if Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar does not resign, with the Cockroach Janta Party pledging a peaceful mobilisation.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced plans for a fresh protest in Delhi on October 10, intensifying its campaign over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and its demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said supporters from across the country would march towards Delhi if Kumar did not step down. He said the proposed demonstration would remain peaceful and would follow the principles of non-violent protest associated with Mahatma Gandhi.

Dipke also said that if Delhi Police prevented protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar, the location where they were stopped would effectively become their protest venue. The statement followed police action during earlier demonstrations in Delhi, when several protesters were detained after attempting to reach Jantar Mantar.

The planned mobilisation is connected to the wider dispute surrounding the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The CJP has questioned the process and demanded greater transparency in electoral administration, while the Election Commission has maintained that decisions concerning the SIR were taken through its established procedures.

The CJP's announcement came shortly after its October 2 demonstration in Mumbai, where supporters gathered at Shivaji Park despite authorities having denied permission for the proposed event. The organisation has said it intends to conduct further demonstrations in several states before taking its campaign to Delhi.

The October 10 programme could therefore become another major test of how authorities manage public demonstrations surrounding the electoral-roll controversy, particularly after the large-scale detentions witnessed during protests in Delhi on October 2.

For now, the CJP has maintained that its proposed Delhi mobilisation will be peaceful, while authorities will have to determine the arrangements governing any gathering in the capital.
