CJP THREATENS NATIONWIDE PROTESTS FROM OCTOBER 2 OVER DEMAND FOR CEC GYANESH KUMAR’S RESIGNATION
September 25, 2026
NEW DELHI: Citizens Justice Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Friday said his organisation would launch nationwide protests from October 2 if Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar does not resign by Saturday, amid the continuing controversy surrounding the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Dipke said in a post on X that the agitation would begin in Mumbai on Gandhi Jayanti and subsequently spread to cities across the country. He had issued a similar demand a day earlier, threatening a “Jantar Mantar 2.0” protest if Kumar did not step down.
Dipke also criticised opposition parties for continuing to participate in elections while alleging that the electoral process was being manipulated. He argued that contesting elections under such circumstances could, in his view, lend legitimacy to the process. These are Dipke’s allegations and political views; they have not been established as facts.
The announcement comes amid a wider dispute over the functioning of the Election Commission. An Indian Express report cited by the Times of India said Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised objections on at least 14 occasions over 10 months concerning decisions related to voter additions, deletions, restoration and registration procedures. The Election Commission, however, has maintained that decisions, including those concerning the SIR exercise, were taken unanimously with the approval of all three commissioners.
