CLASSROOMS TURN INTO SCENES OF VIOLENCE: TWO DISTURBING SCHOOL ATTACKS IN HARYANA AND ANDHRA PRADESH EXPOSE GROWING SAFETY CONCERNS

October 31, 2026

NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 31, 2026 — Two disturbing incidents of violence against schoolgirls have emerged from Haryana and Andhra Pradesh, raising serious concerns about student safety, school security and the effectiveness of institutional safeguards within India's educational establishments. In Haryana's Panchkula, a six-year-old kindergarten student was critically injured after an alleged assault by a Class 3 student at Sanskriti Model School. In a separate incident in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district, a man reportedly entered a classroom carrying a chainsaw and attacked two Class 10 students at Raptadu Zilla Parishad High School.

The incidents, reported on Saturday, October 31, have drawn attention to the vulnerability of children within educational institutions and the responsibility of school administrations to maintain safe environments. While the circumstances and alleged perpetrators differ considerably, both cases involve attacks within school premises and have prompted police investigations.

HARYANA: SIX-YEAR-OLD GIRL CRITICALLY INJURED IN SCHOOL ATTACK

The incident in Panchkula has particularly shocked the local community because of the severity of the injuries sustained by the young student. According to initial reports, the girl was allegedly attacked by a Class 3 student inside Sanskriti Model School.

A video of the incident circulating on social media reportedly shows the boy assaulting the girl with stones, repeatedly striking her head against a desk and subsequently attacking her with a flowerpot. The assault allegedly continued even after the girl lost consciousness, with the boy dragging her by her hair across the school premises.

The six-year-old girl, who was described as differently abled in initial reports, was initially taken to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6. Given the seriousness of her injuries, she was subsequently referred to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh for further treatment.

The incident has raised questions about how such an assault could occur within school premises and why the child was not protected during the alleged attack.

FAMILY DESCRIBES DISTRESSING DISCOVERY

The victim's family has described the circumstances in which the girl was discovered after she failed to return home from school.

According to a relative who spoke to ANI, the girl had reportedly argued with a boy before the incident. On the day of the attack, she went to school but did not return at the expected time.

The family said that when the school transport driver arrived, the girl was missing. The driver subsequently informed her father, who went to the school to search for her.

According to the uncle's account, the boy with whom the girl had previously argued informed her father that she was lying upstairs before leaving the area. The father then discovered the injured child inside a room that had reportedly been locked from the outside.

The family has described the discovery as devastating. The precise circumstances surrounding the incident, including the alleged motive and the sequence of events, remain under investigation.

Police have questioned the school management and the parents of the accused boy. Investigators are examining the circumstances of the assault and the possible reasons behind it.

ANDHRA PRADESH: MAN ENTERS CLASSROOM WITH CHAINSAW AND ATTACKS TWO GIRLS

In another alarming incident, two Class 10 students were attacked by a man carrying a chainsaw at Raptadu Zilla Parishad High School in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district.

According to police, the attacker entered a classroom and targeted the two schoolgirls. Both sustained injuries, although one of the victims was reported to be stable.

Anantapur Rural Sub-Divisional Police Officer K. Ashwin Manideep confirmed the incident and said that the accused was allegedly related to one of the girls.

Police teams were deployed to trace and arrest the attacker. Investigators were gathering further information about the circumstances of the assault and the relationship between the accused and the victims.

The entry of an armed individual into a classroom has raised serious concerns about access control, campus security and the protection of students during school hours.

ANDHRA PRADESH CHIEF MINISTER ORDERS STRICT ACTION

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep shock and anger over the attack on the schoolgirls.

He said he was personally monitoring the recovery of the injured student and had instructed doctors to provide priority medical attention.

The Chief Minister also directed the police to track down the accused and ensure stringent legal action against him.

His response came amid growing concern over the safety of children in educational institutions and the need for effective protection against external threats.

A SERIES OF SCHOOL VIOLENCE INCIDENTS RAISES NATIONAL CONCERN

The two latest incidents have emerged against the backdrop of several other episodes of violence in Indian educational institutions in recent months.

On October 28, an assistant teacher was seriously injured after being attacked with a sharp weapon inside a school in Assam. The alleged attacker was reportedly the son of a school cook.

In Pune, a Class 9 student was stabbed by a classmate inside a classroom on October 23, reportedly following a dispute involving a deleted Instagram video.

Earlier, on September 30, a Class 9 student at Kolkata's South Point School was attacked with a sharp object by another student in front of a teacher following a quarrel over books.

In August, a 15-year-old student was fatally stabbed near a school gate in Ahmedabad by a younger student, triggering protests and renewed scrutiny of school security arrangements.

These incidents differ in their circumstances, severity and alleged motivations. Nevertheless, their recurrence has intensified public discussion about violence among students, the security of educational campuses and the effectiveness of intervention mechanisms when conflicts emerge.

SCHOOL SAFETY AND INSTITUTIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY

The incidents in Haryana and Andhra Pradesh highlight two distinct dimensions of school safety. The Panchkula case concerns alleged violence involving students within the school environment, while the Anantapur incident involves an alleged external attacker entering a classroom with a dangerous power tool.

Both situations raise questions about institutional preparedness, supervision and emergency response.

Schools are responsible for maintaining an environment in which children can study without fear of physical violence. Effective supervision, appropriate access controls, functioning emergency-response procedures and timely intervention in cases of conflict are essential components of student protection.

Equally important is the need to identify behavioural conflicts at an early stage and ensure that children have access to appropriate counselling and support. Alleged incidents involving minors must be investigated with due regard to their age, legal protections and the circumstances surrounding the events.

THE URGENT QUESTION OF CHILDREN'S SECURITY

The attacks in Panchkula and Anantapur have brought the question of school safety into sharp national focus. For the family of the injured six-year-old girl, the immediate concern remains her medical recovery and the investigation into the circumstances of the assault. In Andhra Pradesh, attention is centred on the recovery of the injured schoolgirls and the apprehension of the alleged chainsaw attacker.

Beyond the immediate investigations, the incidents raise a wider question about whether educational institutions have adequate systems to prevent violence and respond effectively when children's safety is threatened.

Schools must function as protected environments for learning, development and social interaction. When serious violence occurs within their premises, the circumstances demand careful investigation, institutional accountability and examination of existing safety arrangements.

The priority in both cases remains the recovery of the injured children, the establishment of the facts through lawful investigations and the implementation of measures that can reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.
