CONGRESS TURNS UP HEAT OVER CHAMPAT RAI, QUESTIONS PM MODI’S SILENCE

October 4, 2026

NEW DELHI — The Congress has stepped up its attack over allegations involving Champat Rai, questioning why Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not publicly addressed the controversy and alleging that Rai is being protected by those in power.

Congress leaders have demanded greater clarity over the allegations and questioned whether political considerations are preventing an impartial examination of the matter. The party has also sought an explanation for what it described as the Prime Minister’s silence.

Rai, a senior functionary associated with the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust, has come under political scrutiny amid the controversy. The Congress has used the issue to renew its broader criticism of the BJP and its handling of matters connected with the Ram temple movement.

The BJP and its associates have rejected political allegations made by the Congress, while the controversy continues to generate competing claims from the two sides.

The latest confrontation adds another layer to the continuing political battle between the ruling BJP and Congress, with both parties using the dispute to question each other’s accountability and credibility.
