CYCLONE ARNAB BEARS DOWN ON ANDHRA COAST AS MASS EVACUATION EXCEEDS 89,000

October 27, 2026

AMARAVATI, October 27, 2026: Andhra Pradesh has intensified its disaster-preparedness operations ahead of the expected landfall of Cyclone Arnab on October 28, with more than 89,000 people evacuated from vulnerable areas as authorities brace for severe weather.

The large-scale evacuation is aimed at reducing the risk to residents living in low-lying coastal settlements and other areas exposed to flooding and strong winds. State authorities have mobilised emergency personnel and are coordinating relief arrangements to protect communities ahead of the approaching storm.

The administration is focusing on moving residents to safer locations and preparing shelters to accommodate evacuees. Emergency-response teams are also being positioned to assist with rescue operations, while officials monitor the cyclone's projected path and intensity.

Cyclones can bring destructive winds, heavy rainfall, coastal flooding and disruptions to transport and essential services. Authorities have therefore urged residents in vulnerable areas to follow official warnings, cooperate with evacuation instructions and avoid unnecessary travel during dangerous weather conditions.

The evacuation of more than 89,000 people highlights the scale of preparations underway along Andhra Pradesh's coastline. The immediate priority remains safeguarding lives and ensuring that emergency assistance can reach affected communities before and after the cyclone makes landfall.
