Four personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force were killed in a firing incident at a security deployment site in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, in what authorities are treating as a fratricide incident.

The shooting occurred at the Sewa Hydel Power Project in the Mashka area of Basohli. The deceased included an Assistant Commandant who was serving as a company commander, a Sub-Inspector and two constables.

A fellow CISF personnel allegedly opened fire on his colleagues before being apprehended. The injured personnel were taken for medical treatment, but four of them later succumbed to their injuries.

The circumstances that led to the shooting remain under investigation. Authorities are examining the sequence of events inside the deployment facility, including the circumstances preceding the firing and the possible motive of the accused personnel.

Police and security authorities have begun a detailed investigation into the incident. Further findings are expected to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths and determine the legal action to follow.
