DELHI ENVELOPED IN THICK SMOG AS AQI CLIMBS TO 332, JAHANGIRPURI RECORDS SEVERE 452

November 3, 2026

NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 3: Delhi continued to battle deteriorating air quality on Tuesday as thick smog covered large parts of the national capital, with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 332, placing it in the 'very poor' category.

The situation was considerably worse in Jahangirpuri, where the AQI surged to 452, entering the 'severe' category. Several other monitoring stations across the city also recorded high pollution levels, reflecting the widespread deterioration in atmospheric conditions.

The thick haze reduced visibility and raised concerns over the health risks associated with prolonged exposure to polluted air. Residents, particularly children, elderly people and those suffering from respiratory or cardiovascular conditions, remained vulnerable to the effects of the worsening pollution.

The deterioration comes as Delhi enters another winter pollution season, when stagnant atmospheric conditions, lower temperatures and emissions from multiple sources contribute to the accumulation of pollutants. Vehicular emissions, construction dust, industrial activity and seasonal agricultural burning are among the factors associated with the region's recurring air-quality crisis.

The latest readings have renewed concerns over the effectiveness of pollution-control measures and the need for sustained action to address the sources of hazardous air pollution across the National Capital Region.
