DELHI POLICE DETAIN CJP FOUNDER ABHIJEET DIPKE AND AISA CHIEF NEHA BOHRA BEFORE TRICOLOUR MARCH
October 16, 2026
NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 16: Delhi Police detained Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke and All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bohra on Friday as they headed towards Connaught Place to participate in the proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Dipke was detained at his residence in Jhandewalan, while Bohra was picked up near Mandi House in central Delhi. Their detention came amid heightened security arrangements ahead of the planned demonstration, which has become a focal point of the ongoing political dispute over electoral transparency and the revision of voter lists.
Earlier in the day, more than 20 police personnel visited Dipke’s residence and served him a notice directing him to refrain from activities that could adversely affect the rights of citizens, traders, commuters, patients and others.
The police action unfolded amid preparations for the evening protest, with security personnel deployed across central Delhi to prevent disturbances and manage public movement. The proposed march was intended to press for Kumar’s resignation amid allegations of irregularities surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The CJP has presented the demonstration as a campaign for electoral accountability and the protection of voting rights. Critics of the SIR process have raised concerns about potential exclusions from voter lists, while the dispute has also prompted questions about the right to peaceful assembly and the restrictions imposed on demonstrations in the capital.
The detentions have added another development to the confrontation between protesters and the authorities. The immediate focus remains on the police response to the planned march and the continuing campaign for accountability from the Election Commission.
