DELHI TURNS INTO HIGH-SECURITY ZONE AHEAD OF INDIA BLOC SHOWDOWN AT RAMLILA MAIDAN
October 31, 2026
New Delhi is preparing for extensive security arrangements ahead of the INDIA bloc's rally at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, November 1, with more than 4,000 Delhi Police personnel and additional Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) companies scheduled for deployment. The rally, organised under the banner of the opposition alliance, is expected to attract approximately 30,000–40,000 participants, prompting authorities to introduce multilayered security and traffic management measures across the national capital.
According to officials, Ramlila Maidan has been divided into 14 security zones, each supervised by designated police officers. More than 200 CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor crowd movements, entry and exit points, while drone surveillance, body-worn cameras and a dedicated control room will support security operations. Anti-riot vehicles and additional surveillance equipment will also remain on standby. Police have established designated entry gates, with attendees required to undergo security screening, including metal detector checks.
The security deployment will extend beyond the rally venue to cover the march route from Minto Bridge to Ramlila Maidan. Approximately 150 additional traffic police personnel will be assigned to regulate vehicular movement, while traffic diversions will be introduced at several important intersections. Authorities have also made arrangements to ensure uninterrupted access for ambulances and emergency vehicles travelling towards Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital and GB Pant Hospital.
In a related development, the Union Home Ministry has extended the deployment of 270 CAPF companies in Delhi until November 16, marking the third extension this month. These forces were initially brought to the capital following a series of protests earlier in October and will continue assisting Delhi Police in maintaining law and order amid the possibility of further demonstrations and the ongoing festive season.
The rally has also raised concerns among traders operating in markets surrounding Ramlila Maidan, who fear that traffic restrictions and the anticipated gathering could disrupt commercial activities ahead of Diwali. Organisers have been instructed to coordinate parking arrangements, deploy volunteers, provide drinking water and maintain crowd discipline. The rally has received permission to proceed between 10 am and 5 pm.
