DELHI UNDER EXTENDED SECURITY COVER AS CENTRE DEPLOYS 270 CAPF COMPANIES AHEAD OF OPPOSITION RALLY
October 30, 2026
NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 30, 2026: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has extended the deployment of 270 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in Delhi until November 16, citing an upcoming INDIA bloc rally, the possibility of sudden protests and the need to maintain law and order during the ongoing festival season.
The extension, approved at the request of Delhi Police, will keep the additional forces in the national capital beyond October 31. This marks the third extension of their deployment this month.
The security arrangements come ahead of the Congress-led INDIA bloc's Chalo Dilli March, which will culminate in a rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1. The opposition has organised the demonstration to protest alleged electoral irregularities under the slogan of fighting “vote chori”.
The 270 companies comprise 125 from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), including 17 units of women personnel; 20 from the Rapid Action Force (RAF); 46 from the Border Security Force (BSF); 39 from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP); 31 from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB); and 12 from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
These forces were initially deployed earlier in October following protests organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The CJP subsequently organised a “Lehra Do Tiranga” demonstration on October 16 and extended support to the INDIA bloc's planned protest.
Delhi Police has been tasked with coordinating the deployment alongside local security personnel. The extended arrangement is intended to enable authorities to respond to potential demonstrations and maintain public order during the politically sensitive period
