DENIED PROTEST PERMISSION, SAHIL WAKODE’S FATHER PLANS VISIT TO IIT BOMBAY CAMPUS
October 3, 2026
MUMBAI — The father of IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode, who died earlier this year, has said he plans to visit the institute’s campus after authorities denied permission for a proposed protest.
The family had sought permission to hold a demonstration at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, raising concerns over the circumstances surrounding Sahil’s death and seeking greater attention to the issues faced by students on campus.
With permission for the protest not granted, his father is now planning to travel to the institute and meet people connected with the case. He has indicated that his visit will focus on seeking answers and drawing attention to his son’s experience at IIT Bombay.
Sahil Wakode’s death had triggered discussions about student welfare, academic pressure and the need for effective institutional mechanisms to address grievances. His family has continued to seek clarity over the circumstances surrounding his death.
The proposed campus visit comes amid wider public debate over mental-health support, student safety and institutional accountability at premier educational institutions in India
