Three residents of Gujarat travelling to the United States were allegedly kidnapped in Ethiopia, with their captors reportedly demanding a ransom of around ₹1 crore for their release.
The three men, from different parts of Gujarat, had travelled to Ethiopia as part of their journey towards the United States. Their families reportedly lost contact with them after they reached the African country, prompting efforts to determine their whereabouts.
According to information available to the families, the men were allegedly taken hostage by an armed group. A ransom demand was subsequently communicated, intensifying concerns over their safety and triggering efforts to secure their release.
The incident has prompted Indian authorities to coordinate with Ethiopian officials and examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction. The families are also seeking assistance from government agencies to establish the location and condition of the three men.
Authorities are investigating who may be behind the kidnapping, how the victims were intercepted and whether the incident was connected to organised criminal networks operating along migration and transit routes.
The case has highlighted the security risks faced by Indians travelling through countries where armed groups and criminal networks operate. Efforts are continuing to verify the circumstances of the abduction and secure the safe return of the three Gujarat residents
