FCRA APPROVALS UNDER SCRUTINY AS TWO HOME MINISTRY OFFICIALS FACE BRIBERY ALLEGATIONS
September 30, 2026
Two government officials have been arrested in New Delhi for allegedly seeking illegal gratification from an association in exchange for facilitating its pending registration under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act.
The officials, identified as a Senior Accountant posted in the Foreigners Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs and an Accountant currently serving in a Pay and Accounts Office, were apprehended following information received by the Home Ministry.
Investigators suspect that the officials had been in contact with certain associations and allegedly offered to facilitate FCRA registrations and renewals in return for payments. Authorities are examining whether the alleged arrangement involved additional officials, organisations or intermediaries.
The FCRA regulates the receipt and utilisation of foreign contributions by eligible organisations in India. Registration under the law is required for organisations seeking to receive foreign funds, while the Home Ministry’s Foreigners Division oversees the relevant regulatory process.
The Home Ministry has said that appropriate legal and departmental action is being initiated against the accused officials. Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the extent of the alleged network and determine whether other individuals were involved.
The ministry has also reiterated that FCRA-related services are provided through the official online portal and that no private intermediary, agent or individual is authorised to facilitate registration or renewal applications.
