FRESH POCSO CASE REGISTERED AGAINST R VEERAMANI AS SIT EXPANDS PROBE
September 28, 2026
A fresh case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has been registered against Tamil Nadu businessman R. Veeramani after the mother of a minor girl approached the Special Investigation Team investigating earlier allegations against him.
According to investigators, the woman came forward following Veeramani’s arrest in another child sexual-abuse case. She alleged that her daughter, who was 16 and studying in Class XI, had visited Veeramani’s residence in 2014. The girl reportedly became withdrawn afterwards and later died by suicide.
Police said the original case concerning the girl’s death had been registered at the time, but records at the concerned police station were subsequently destroyed in a fire. Investigators have since obtained available records from the court and police authorities as part of the renewed inquiry.
Veeramani, who is currently in Puzhal Central Prison following his arrest in August, was formally arrested in connection with the fresh case through prison authorities.
The all-women SIT, headed by Additional Commissioner P. C. Thenmozhi, is examining the new allegation along with other matters connected to the investigation. The team has also appealed to anyone possessing relevant information, documents or other evidence to come forward, while assuring that the identities of informants will be kept confidential.
