FROM BATMAN AND SPIDER-MAN TO A 93-YEAR-OLD SADHU, DIVERSE CROWD MARKS INDIA BLOC RALLY IN DELHI
November 2, 2026
A strikingly diverse crowd gathered at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan for the INDIA bloc’s rally against alleged electoral irregularities, bringing together people from different generations, occupations and social backgrounds. Among those who attracted attention were two people dressed as Batman and Spider-Man, a Class VI student, a 93-year-old sadhu and a farmer.
The gathering reflected the Opposition alliance’s attempt to draw public attention to its allegations of voter deletions and irregularities associated with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Participants included political supporters, ordinary citizens and individuals who travelled to the capital to express their concerns about voting rights and the electoral process.
The presence of a school student alongside elderly participants and people from rural communities illustrated the range of individuals drawn to the demonstration. The unusual costumes of Batman and Spider-Man also stood out amid the political gathering, creating a contrast with the rally’s serious message.
The rally was organised by the INDIA bloc at a time of escalating confrontation between the Opposition and the BJP-led government over electoral roll revision and the functioning of election authorities. Opposition leaders have demanded accountability over alleged voter exclusions, while the government and election authorities have defended the need to maintain accurate electoral rolls.
Beyond the speeches and political slogans, the varied gathering offered a glimpse of the different ways people chose to participate in the demonstration, making the rally notable not only for its political message but also for the diversity of those present.
