GANDHI SIBLINGS DETAINED AGAIN AS ELECTION COMMISSION PROTEST ESCALATES IN DELHI
October 7, 2026
Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were detained again in New Delhi on Wednesday as INDIA bloc MPs faced police resistance while attempting to stage another protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The fresh confrontation came less than 24 hours after the siblings were detained following an extended sit-in at Akashvani Bhawan. On Wednesday, opposition MPs travelling towards Jantar Mantar were stopped by police before reaching the designated protest site, triggering another road protest and a series of detentions.
Priyanka Gandhi joined several women MPs in sitting on the road after police prevented the protesters from proceeding. She was subsequently removed by police, while Rahul Gandhi was also taken into custody. Priyanka later alleged that women police personnel had pushed her to the ground and scratched her during the detention.
The INDIA bloc has been demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and opposing the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, alleging serious irregularities in the electoral process. Opposition leaders have vowed to continue their demonstrations until their demands are addressed.
The repeated confrontations between opposition lawmakers and Delhi Police have sharply intensified the political battle over electoral rolls and the functioning of the Election Commission, with both sides maintaining their respective positions as protests continue in the capital.
