HEAVY RAINS IN CHHATTISGARH TRIGGER FLOODING IN MAHARASHTRA, 525 EVACUATED
September 27, 2026
Heavy rainfall in neighbouring Chhattisgarh has triggered flooding in parts of Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, forcing authorities to evacuate around 525 people from vulnerable areas of Bhamragadh. The flooding followed a sharp rise in the levels of rivers and streams flowing into the district from the Chhattisgarh catchment areas.
Several villages and hamlets were affected as the Indravati, Parlakota and Pamalgautam rivers swelled. Floodwaters submerged a bridge on the Bhamragadh-Allapalli route, disrupting road connectivity, while highways in the affected area remained closed as authorities monitored the situation.
Rescue teams also assisted people requiring urgent medical attention. An ailing schoolgirl was moved across the flooded Gundenur stream with the help of the State Disaster Response Force and taken to a primary health centre for treatment. Two other seriously ill patients were also evacuated from the affected area, according to local reports.
Water levels have since begun to recede, bringing some relief to the region. However, the district administration has advised residents living near riverbanks and in low-lying areas to remain alert and avoid flooded roads and bridges. No casualties had been reported at the time of the latest official updates.
