INDIA BLOC ESCALATES ELECTORAL ROLL BATTLE, DEMANDS REVIEW OF 47 LAKH NAMES
October 7, 2026
Leaders of the INDIA bloc have intensified their campaign against the ongoing revision of electoral rolls, meeting Delhi Chief Electoral Officer R. Alice Vaz and demanding the cancellation of the Special Intensive Revision exercise in the national capital.
The opposition delegation also sought the return of around 47 lakh names that it claimed had been excluded from the electoral rolls during the revision process. The meeting came amid growing confrontation between opposition parties and election authorities over the methodology and implications of the exercise.
INDIA bloc leaders argued that the revision could result in legitimate voters being removed from electoral rolls and demanded greater transparency in the verification process. They also pressed the Delhi election authorities to address their concerns regarding the large number of names affected.
The dispute has become part of a wider opposition campaign against the Election Commission, with INDIA bloc parties accusing the poll machinery of failing to adequately protect voters' rights. The Election Commission has maintained that electoral-roll revisions are undertaken to ensure accurate voter lists and comply with established procedures.
The latest meeting indicates that the opposition intends to pursue the issue through both political mobilisation and direct engagement with election officials, keeping electoral-roll revision at the centre of its confrontation with the poll authorities.
