INDIA WARNS PAKISTAN OF CONSEQUENCES FOR CONTINUED TERRORISM AT UN

September 26, 2026

UNITED NATIONS: India strongly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly on Friday, accusing Islamabad of spreading “falsehoods” and “deceit” and warning that continued cross-border terrorism would have consequences. The remarks came in response to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s address, in which he again raised the Kashmir issue.

India’s First Secretary at the UN, Petal Gahlot, described Pakistan as a regime “of the army, by the army and for the army”, questioning the extent of civilian political authority in the country. She also rejected Islamabad’s claims concerning Jammu and Kashmir and reiterated India’s position that the territory is an integral part of the country.

Gahlot referred to the 2025 conflict between India and Pakistan and said New Delhi had demonstrated that those responsible for terrorism “will have nowhere to run, nowhere to hide”. She said India’s right to defend itself against terrorism would be exercised and warned that continued terrorism from Pakistan would have consequences.

Sharif, in his UN address, had called for a “just and fair solution” to the Kashmir issue and credited US President Donald Trump with intervening during the 2025 conflict. India has consistently rejected the suggestion of third-party mediation in the dispute. The two countries continue to hold sharply differing positions on Kashmir, cross-border terrorism and the Indus Waters Treaty.
