September 23, 2026
JAMUI: Nandan Yadav, identified by police as the masked man seen in a viral video allegedly showing the harassment and molestation of a minor girl in Bihar’s Jamui district, was arrested after being shot in the leg during a police operation on Tuesday. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said Yadav allegedly opened fire and attempted to flee when a special investigation team approached his hideout near the Jamui-Lakhisarai border. Police personnel reportedly retaliated in self-defence, injuring him in the leg. Another accused, Hareram Yadav, was also arrested after allegedly attempting to escape and sustaining a leg injury.
The case relates to a September 19 incident in which a group of youths allegedly intercepted two Class 10 students and assaulted and harassed them. Videos of the incident later circulated widely on social media, prompting the formation of a special investigation team. Police had earlier arrested three persons and said seven individuals had been identified in connection with the incident.
Police are also investigating the circulation of videos that could reveal the minor's identity. Separate action has been initiated against people accused of sharing the footage. The investigation into the incident and the criminal backgrounds of the arrested accused is continuing.
