Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following a video showing Delhi Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh allegedly slapping a man during a road inspection in west Delhi.

The incident occurred during an inspection of a newly constructed road in Tilak Nagar. According to reports, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Jarnail Singh questioned the quality of the road and removed portions of its surface by hand, while a man recording the proceedings was subsequently seen being slapped by the minister. The incident has triggered a political controversy.

Kharge described the episode as an example of what he characterised as the growing “arrogance of power” and alleged that people questioning those in authority were being subjected to intimidation and physical force. He also cited earlier incidents involving protests and clashes with protesters while criticising the BJP and the RSS.

The BJP and its leaders have faced political criticism over the incident, while Singh’s side has reportedly referred to the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. The episode has added to the continuing political debate over the conduct of public officials and the treatment of citizens during public inspections.

The controversy is expected to remain a point of political confrontation between the ruling BJP and opposition parties as both sides respond to the incident and its wider implications.
