LPU STUDENTS PROTEST OVER UNVERIFIED SEXUAL ASSAULT CLAIMS, HIGHWAY BLOCKED

Students of Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Phagwara, Punjab, staged protests late Saturday night and into Sunday after unverified reports circulated on social media alleging that a female student had been sexually assaulted and subsequently died by suicide.
The protest escalated into vandalism on the university campus, with window panes and other property damaged and some objects reportedly set on fire. Students also blocked the Jalandhar–Phagwara National Highway, disrupting traffic on the major route.
Police said they had received no confirmed complaint concerning the alleged incident when officers reached the campus. Kapurthala SSP Gaurav Toora said the claims appeared to have spread through rumours and that authorities were working to establish the facts.
LPU denied the allegations circulating on social media and urged students and the public not to spread unverified information. Police and university authorities have been engaging with student representatives, while an assessment of the property damage and further legal action are underway.
