MISSING GOLD BANGLE, GRAVE TORTURE ALLEGATIONS: POLICE PROBE ACCUSATIONS AGAINST UTTAR PRADESH BJP MLA
October 11, 2026
Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district are investigating allegations that three men were illegally confined and brutally tortured at the residence of Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Sushant Singh over the suspected theft of a gold bracelet belonging to the legislator’s son. The victims’ family has sought a criminal case against six named individuals, including aides of the MLA, and nine unidentified people. However, no FIR had been registered at the time of the latest police statement on Sunday.
According to the family, Atul and Lavesh, who worked as domestic help at the legislator’s residence, were allegedly detained over the disappearance of the bracelet. Their friend Ramu was subsequently taken from his home, bringing all three under the alleged control of those accused of the assault.
Ramu’s mother, Omwati, alleged that an aide of the MLA took her son from their residence on October 7, while Atul and Lavesh had already been held captive. She claimed that the three men were hung upside down, beaten with belts, subjected to electric shocks and had salt rubbed into their wounds. The allegations describe severe physical abuse over the suspected theft of the jewellery.
All three men were admitted to a hospital in Kashipur, Uttarakhand, where Ramu’s condition was reported to be critical, according to officials. The seriousness of his condition has heightened concerns over the alleged treatment of the men and the need for a thorough investigation.
MLA Sushant Singh has rejected the accusations as baseless. He maintained that the domestic workers had only been questioned about the missing bracelet and denied that they had been assaulted. His response directly contradicts the family’s account, leaving investigators to establish what occurred at the residence and who, if anyone, was responsible for the alleged violence.
Moradabad Superintendent of Police (Rural) Kunwar Akash Singh said the complainants had requested the registration of an FIR against six named persons and nine unidentified individuals. He confirmed that no case had been registered so far and said the police would take appropriate action after completing the investigation.
Moradabad MP and Samajwadi Party leader Ruchi Veera has demanded immediate justice for the victims and strict action against anyone found responsible. Her intervention has brought political attention to a case involving allegations of abuse at the home of a sitting BJP legislator.
The investigation now faces the task of examining the victims’ statements, the family’s allegations and the MLA’s denial to determine whether unlawful confinement and physical torture took place. Until the evidence is assessed, the allegations remain unproven. However, the reported injuries and Ramu’s critical condition have intensified calls for a prompt and impartial inquiry, with accountability for anyone found to have committed an offence.
