MODI ACCUSES CONGRESS OF FEEDING ON POLITICAL CHAOS, LAUNCHES SHARP ATTACK ON RAHUL GANDHI

October 23, 2026

NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 23, 2026 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a sharp political attack on the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing some political opponents of seeking disorder in India and describing the Congress as a “parasite” in an escalating confrontation with the principal opposition party.

Modi’s remarks reflected the intensifying political battle between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, with the Prime Minister questioning the opposition’s political approach and accusing it of prioritising confrontation over constructive engagement.

Targeting Gandhi, Modi sought to portray the Congress as a party dependent on political instability rather than one capable of offering a credible alternative to the BJP. His choice of the word “parasite” sharpened the rhetoric, signalling a combative approach towards the opposition’s leadership and its role in national politics.

The Prime Minister also warned against what he characterised as attempts to create disorder in the country. His comments placed the Congress and other political opponents under criticism for their protests and challenges to the government, although such characterisations remain part of the political contest between the ruling party and the opposition.

The Congress has repeatedly criticised the Modi government over issues involving democratic institutions, electoral processes, economic policy and political accountability. Gandhi has sought to position his party as a counterweight to the BJP, arguing that opposition scrutiny is essential to the functioning of a parliamentary democracy.

The BJP, meanwhile, has presented its record in government as evidence of public confidence in Modi’s leadership and has frequently accused the Congress of obstructing its agenda. The latest remarks reinforce the party’s strategy of challenging the credibility of the opposition while projecting itself as the principal force for political stability.

The exchange highlights the increasingly confrontational tone of Indian politics, in which personal attacks and accusations have become prominent features of campaigning and parliamentary debate. While the BJP seeks to consolidate its political position, the Congress continues to press its case against the government.

Modi’s comments are likely to intensify the war of words between the two parties, as they compete to shape public opinion over leadership, governance and the future direction of Indian democracy.
