MURASU'S COASTAL ONSLAUGHT: ANDHRA COUNTS LOSSES AS ODISHA BRACES FOR IMPACT
November 3, 2026
AMARAVATI, NOVEMBER 3: Cyclone Murasu brought heavy rainfall and destructive winds to parts of Andhra Pradesh, damaging fishing boats, agricultural crops and infrastructure, while neighbouring Odisha remained on high alert as authorities continued precautionary disaster-management operations.
Coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh experienced adverse weather conditions as the cyclone approached and crossed the region. Strong winds and heavy rainfall disrupted normal life, with reports of damage to fishing equipment, boats and standing crops. Authorities mobilised emergency personnel to assess the impact and assist affected communities.
Odisha continued to monitor the situation closely, particularly in its southern districts, where heavy rainfall and strong winds were expected to pose risks. Disaster-response teams remained prepared for rescue operations, while precautionary arrangements were maintained in vulnerable coastal and low-lying areas.
Authorities urged residents to follow official weather advisories, avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather and remain away from the sea. Fishermen were also advised to stay ashore until conditions improved.
The cyclone has once again highlighted the vulnerability of India's eastern coastline to severe weather systems and the importance of early warnings, evacuation measures and coordinated disaster-response operations.
