NEW POLITICAL OUTFIT ANNOUNCES COUNTRYWIDE CAMPAIGN AGAINST ELECTION CHIEF

October 2, 2026

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), led by founder Abhijeet Dipke, has announced a nationwide protest campaign demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The campaign is scheduled to begin in Mumbai on October 2 and is expected to extend to several states before a proposed demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar later in October.

Dipke said the organisation would continue its agitation until Kumar steps down. The CJP has announced demonstrations in Goa, Karnataka, Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, while its larger Delhi programme is expected to take place towards the end of October.

The proposed Mumbai demonstration at Shivaji Park has become a point of contention after police reportedly denied permission for the gathering. The CJP has said it would proceed with its planned agitation and has described the campaign as an independent movement.

The organisation’s demands include a more transparent process for appointing the Chief Election Commissioner, participation of civil society in the appointment mechanism and freezing the 2025 electoral roll. The party has also raised objections to the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and alleged that the electoral process requires greater public scrutiny.

The CJP has made clear that it will not participate in the INDIA bloc’s separate October 6 protest against the Election Commission. Dipke said his organisation would maintain its independent identity, although he expressed support for efforts by opposition parties to raise concerns about electoral processes.

The planned protests come amid a wider political dispute over voter-roll revision, the functioning of the Election Commission and demands by several opposition parties for action against the poll panel leadership. The CJP’s proposed nationwide mobilisation adds another strand to the growing public and political demonstrations surrounding India’s electoral administration.
