GREATER NOIDA: At least nine passengers were killed after a sleeper tourist bus caught fire on the Yamuna Expressway near Jewar Airport in Greater Noida early Thursday. Several others were injured in the incident.

The bus, carrying approximately 30–40 passengers, was travelling from Kashmere Gate in Delhi towards Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh when it caught fire near the 33-kilometre milestone. Several passengers reportedly attempted to escape through the windows as the flames spread rapidly.

Police and fire services reached the site and rescued more than 20 passengers. Nine people were found dead inside the bus, reportedly from burns or suffocation. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

A preliminary investigation suggested that a possible spark or blast in the air-conditioning system may have ignited engine lubricant oil, although the exact cause remains under investigation. Police have registered a case, and the driver and conductor have been taken into custody.
