November 4, 2026

A nine-year-old Class 3 student died after suffering a cardiac arrest inside her classroom at Lovely Public School in Mayur Vihar, east Delhi, on Wednesday morning.

According to police, the girl suddenly collapsed while standing in front of her class teacher. The incident was captured by the school's CCTV cameras, which were subsequently examined as part of the preliminary investigation.

Police received an emergency PCR call at approximately 9.52 am and initiated an investigation. School authorities immediately rushed the child to a private hospital in Nirman Vihar, where doctors declared her brought dead. She was subsequently taken to another hospital after the first medical facility advised the school to approach a higher medical centre.

School principal Dr Bhavna said the girl collapsed while standing before her teacher. She confirmed that school staff had immediately responded, arranged medical assistance and informed the child's family.

The CCTV footage reportedly showed the student attempting to approach her class teacher before suddenly falling to the ground. The teacher rushed towards her, picked her up and attempted to make her sit on a chair. Several classmates gathered around the child, while some students ran outside the classroom to alert school authorities.

Doctors informed the school that the child had suffered a cardiac arrest.

Police said the incident remained under investigation. Statements from the girl's parents and relevant school authorities would be recorded as investigators examine the circumstances surrounding her sudden collapse and death.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the importance of emergency medical preparedness in schools, particularly the availability of trained personnel and immediate resuscitation facilities when a child experiences a sudden medical emergency.
