October 19, 2026
BHUBANESWAR, OCTOBER 19: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Braj Mohan Ram from Jharkhand was sworn in as the 28th Governor of Odisha, marking a new chapter in the constitutional leadership of the eastern state.
The oath-taking ceremony formally installed Ram in the gubernatorial office, which carries constitutional responsibilities including overseeing the functioning of the state government in accordance with the Constitution.
Ram’s appointment brings a political figure from neighbouring Jharkhand to the Raj Bhavan in Odisha. The Governor’s role is primarily constitutional, involving responsibilities connected with the state legislature, the appointment of the chief minister and other ministers in accordance with constitutional provisions, and the exercise of powers prescribed under the Constitution.
His assumption of office comes as Odisha continues its political and administrative work under the state government. As the new Governor, Ram will be expected to discharge his constitutional duties while maintaining the institutional relationship between the Raj Bhavan and the elected government.
The swearing-in establishes Ram as Odisha’s 28th Governor, adding another development to the changing landscape of gubernatorial appointments across India.
