OPPOSITION UNLEASHES UNITED CHALLENGE OVER ELECTORAL INTEGRITY AT MASSIVE DELHI RALLY
November 2, 2026
NEW DELHI: Leaders of the INDIA bloc on Sunday, November 1, gathered at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan for a massive protest rally against alleged electoral irregularities, demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The rally, organised under the banner of 'Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao', brought together prominent leaders from the Congress, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Left parties. Opposition leaders accused the Election Commission of facilitating alleged voter manipulation and questioned the deletion of names from electoral rolls.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were affected by large-scale electoral irregularities and warned that Gyanesh Kumar would face removal from office and possible legal action. He also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of protecting the Chief Election Commissioner. Gandhi, however, maintained that the opposition's campaign would remain democratic and non-violent.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused the BJP leadership of undermining democratic institutions and called for Modi's removal to protect democracy. Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee alleged that West Bengal had witnessed electoral manipulation and claimed that more than one crore votes had been removed through the SIR exercise. She vowed to challenge the alleged irregularities through democratic means.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav also criticised the electoral-roll revision, raising concerns over the alleged exclusion of voters. Left leaders and other opposition representatives called for greater accountability in the functioning of constitutional institutions.
The BJP rejected the opposition's allegations, describing the rally as an attempt to discredit legitimate electoral processes. BJP president Nitin Nabin also criticised Rahul Gandhi's remarks and accused the opposition of undermining constitutional institutions.
The gathering marks a further escalation of the INDIA bloc's campaign against alleged electoral irregularities, with opposition parties pledging to continue their demand for accountability from the Election Commission and the removal of Gyanesh Kumar.
