PILOTS SEEK REPRESENTATION IN REVIEW OF AIR INDIA CRASH PROBE

September 27, 2026

The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has sought representation in any independent technical review of the draft final investigation report into the June 2025 Air India AI171 crash in Ahmedabad.

In a letter to Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, the pilots’ body requested that it be formally included as an independent technical stakeholder if a committee is constituted to examine the draft report before its finalisation. FIP also called for its technical submissions to be formally considered during the review process.

The Boeing 787-8 operating AI171 crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad for London Gatwick on June 12, 2025, killing 260 people, including 241 of the 242 people aboard and 19 people on the ground. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is continuing its investigation, with the final report expected after completion of the remaining technical and review processes.

FIP has previously raised questions concerning aircraft electrical systems, technical evidence and simulator-related assessments. The AAIB has said that its investigation is being conducted independently and on the basis of verified evidence, with the objective of improving aviation safety rather than assigning blame.
