September 27, 2026
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday recalled the 2016 surgical strikes carried out by the Indian Army across the Line of Control, describing the operation as a significant demonstration of India’s counter-terrorism policy.
Speaking during the 138th episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Modi said the operation of September 28–29, 2016, showed India’s resolve to respond to terrorist attacks. He said the strikes, carried out following the Uri terror attack, marked a change in India’s approach to dealing with terrorism.
Modi also referred to subsequent military operations, including the Balakot airstrike and Operation Sindoor, saying India had consistently conveyed that terrorist attacks would face a strong response. He reiterated that the country follows a “zero-tolerance” policy towards terrorism.
The Prime Minister also recalled the 2008 Delhi serial blasts and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks while discussing India’s experience with terrorism. His remarks came a day before the tenth anniversary of the 2016 surgical strikes.
