RAHUL GANDHI ACCUSES BJP, RSS AND EC OVER ‘VOTE CHORI’, DEMANDS ACCOUNTABILITY

NEW DELHI: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused the BJP, RSS and Election Commission of involvement in what he described as “vote chori”, alleging that electoral processes and voter rolls had been compromised. He said the issue amounted to an attack on the Constitution and asserted that those responsible would face accountability.

Gandhi’s remarks came amid an escalating political dispute over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised objections on at least 14 occasions over matters including voter registration, deletions, Form 6 procedures and electoral-roll data.

Congress leaders have demanded the resignation or removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and an investigation into the reported objections. The party has also announced nationwide protests over the issue.

The Election Commission has rejected the suggestion that the reported correspondence represents a formal split within the three-member commission. It has maintained that internal notes, observations and disagreements during the drafting process are part of normal institutional deliberations and that final decisions, including those concerning SIR, were taken unanimously by all three commissioners
