Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has appealed to students and citizens across political affiliations to participate in the INDIA bloc’s “Chalo Delhi Ramlila March” scheduled for November 1 at Ramlila Maidan, Delhi. He described the demonstration as a movement to defend democracy, protect the Constitution and challenge alleged “vote theft”.
In a video message shared on social media on Thursday, Gandhi urged student organisations to join the march, arguing that the protest was not confined to any single political party but concerned the country’s democratic future. He called on young people who believe their freedom of expression, ideas and political thinking are under threat to take part.
Addressing concerns over possible police action, Gandhi said, “Don’t worry about police, don’t worry about lathis,” expressing confidence that the ruling BJP would not resort to such tactics. He urged people to march together to safeguard the Constitution and the Indian nation.
The proposed rally comes amid the opposition INDIA bloc’s campaign over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls and the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. Opposition leaders have raised concerns about eligible voters’ names being removed from electoral lists and have demanded accountability from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The November 1 march is expected to serve as a major opposition mobilisation, with Gandhi seeking participation from students and citizens beyond established party boundaries. The allegations surrounding electoral processes remain central to the opposition’s campaign.
