September 25, 2026
RAJKOT: Marwadi University in Gujarat’s Rajkot district has reported a second student death within six days after another engineering student died following a fall from a campus building on Friday. Police have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the latest incident.
The student, identified in local reports as Himat Gandaman, was pursuing engineering at the university and was reported to have fallen from the sixth floor of a university building. Police and university authorities are investigating the circumstances of the death.
The latest incident follows the death of 19-year-old Alla Venkatesh Sobarnika, a second-year BTech student from Andhra Pradesh, who fell from the 10th floor of the university’s girls’ hostel on September 19. She was studying Computer Science and Engineering with a specialisation in Artificial Intelligence.
In Sobarnika’s case, police said no suicide note had been recovered and that investigators were examining her phone records and recording statements from hostel residents and classmates to establish the circumstances leading to her death. The cause of the latest student’s death is also under investigation.
The two incidents within a week have prompted renewed scrutiny of safety and student welfare at the university. Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances of both deaths as part of their respective investigations.
