Indian equity markets came under heavy selling pressure on Monday, with the BSE Sensex falling more than 1,000 points and the NSE Nifty 50 slipping below the 22,900 mark during morning trading. The decline came amid elevated crude oil prices, geopolitical uncertainty and continued foreign investor outflows.

The Sensex touched 72,892.63, down 1,003.11 points or 1.36%, while the Nifty 50 fell to 22,863.30, declining 313 points or 1.35%. At around 9:30 am, all 30 Sensex constituents were trading in negative territory, indicating broad-based selling across the benchmark.

Crude oil prices remained a major concern for investors. Brent crude was trading around $106 a barrel, while rising US bond yields and continuing tensions surrounding the Iran-US conflict added to market uncertainty. Asian equities also opened weaker, contributing to the negative sentiment in Indian markets.

The sell-off followed seven consecutive weekly sessions of losses for the benchmark indices, with Sensex and Nifty having already declined significantly over the previous week. The rupee also weakened against the US dollar amid elevated oil prices and continued foreign fund outflows, adding to concerns over India's import costs.

The broader market also remained under pressure, with mid-cap and small-cap indices declining by more than 1% during the morning session. Investors are closely monitoring crude prices, global bond yields, foreign capital flows and developments in the Middle East for further indications of market direction.
