ANUBRATA MONDAL CONFRONTED AT BIRBHUM PARTY OFFICE AS LOCAL ANGER ERUPTS

September 30, 2026

Former Trinamool Congress Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal faced a confrontation at the party’s Suri office on Wednesday when a group of young men allegedly entered the premises, threatened him and vandalised parts of the building.

The incident occurred as Mondal was at the office when the group confronted him over allegations and grievances linked to his years of political dominance in Birbhum. The men reportedly demanded answers and warned him against continuing his activities in the district.

Video footage from the incident showed Mondal surrounded by the youths as furniture and other items inside the office were vandalised. At one point, he was seen raising his hands and appealing for the situation to calm down.

Police subsequently reached the premises and detained three youths in connection with the disturbance. Security arrangements were strengthened in and around Suri following the incident.

Mondal has previously been at the centre of a major cattle-smuggling investigation. The Enforcement Directorate has alleged that he received proceeds connected with the smuggling network, allegations that form part of an ongoing legal case.

The confrontation adds another episode to the political turbulence surrounding Mondal, whose influence over Birbhum politics had been substantial for years. The latest incident has also raised questions about security and political tensions within the district.

Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the confrontation, including the alleged vandalism and threats made at the party office.
