CALCUTTA HIGH COURT TRANSFERS ₹2.66 CRORE DIGITAL ARREST CASE TO CBI
September 24, 2026
KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court has transferred a digital arrest fraud case involving a Narendrapur resident who was allegedly cheated of ₹2.66 crore to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya directed the West Bengal authorities to hand over all documents and records related to the case to the central agency within seven days. The complaint was filed by Jayshree Krishnan, who alleged that fraudsters placed her under “digital arrest” and coerced her into transferring the money.
The transfer follows a Supreme Court ruling concerning the investigation of digital arrest scams, which have national and cross-border dimensions. This is reportedly the second such case in West Bengal to be handed over to the CBI.
Earlier this month, the High Court transferred another digital arrest case involving a 73-year-old man who was allegedly defrauded of ₹1.77 crore. Digital arrest scams typically involve criminals impersonating law-enforcement officials and threatening victims with fabricated legal proceedings to extract money.
