CAMPUS CLASH DEEPENS AS NEHA BORA WARNS OF GROWING RIGHT-WING PRESSURE IN BENGAL

A fresh political confrontation over campuses in West Bengal has emerged after All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora accused right-wing organisations, including the RSS and BJP, of targeting educational institutions and threatening democratic and secular spaces.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the Students’ Federation of India at Jadavpur University on Monday, Bora referred to recent tensions surrounding the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), alleging that students had faced repeated attacks and intimidation. She also referred to an earlier incident at Jadavpur University in which, according to her, students were allegedly confined by outsiders and subjected to stone and egg-throwing.

Bora argued that such incidents represented a wider struggle over political freedom, constitutional values and the character of educational institutions. She accused the right-wing political ecosystem of attempting to restrict freedom of speech and individual liberty.

Declaring that such pressure would not force student organisations to retreat, Bora said the resistance would instead become stronger. Her remarks come amid continuing political tensions on Bengal campuses, where clashes between rival ideological groups have increasingly become part of a wider debate over student politics, academic freedom and the role of outside political organisations.
