CID, STF JOIN PROBE INTO BJP BOOTH PRESIDENT’S KILLING IN BOLPUR

September 29, 2026

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Special Task Force (STF) have joined the investigation into the killing of BJP booth president Chandan Bhalla in Bolpur, Birbhum. Bhalla was shot dead on Sunday evening, with police saying he appeared to have been targeted at close range.

According to the investigation, Bhalla was allegedly called over the phone before leaving his home. He was subsequently attacked by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants. Police have not yet arrested anyone and are examining several people in connection with the case.

Investigators are examining different possible motives, including land-related dealings and a possible internal political dispute. Some family members have suspected a factional conflict within the BJP, while the police have said it is too early to establish the motive before the perpetrators are identified and arrested.

Forensic teams have examined the crime scene, while a sniffer-dog squad has been deployed to trace the route allegedly taken by the attackers. Investigators are also examining available evidence and other leads as the district police work alongside the CID and STF.

The killing has prompted increased police deployment in Bolpur as investigators work to establish the circumstances behind the shooting and identify those responsible.
