FIRE ERUPTS AT MULTI-STOREY LIONS RANGE BUILDING NEAR KOLKATA’S WRITERS’ BUILDINGS, TEN FIRE ENGINES DEPLOYED

November 2, 2026

A fire broke out at a multi-storey building in Lions Range, behind Kolkata’s historic Writers’ Buildings, prompting the deployment of ten fire engines as emergency services launched an operation to bring the blaze under control.

Firefighters rushed to the location after the incident was reported, with multiple engines deployed to tackle the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining portions of the building. The location, situated in the busy central business district of Kolkata, raised concerns over emergency access and the safety of people in the surrounding area.

Fire and emergency personnel were engaged in firefighting operations, while authorities monitored the situation. The cause of the blaze and the extent of damage were yet to be established in the initial report.

The incident once again highlights fire-safety concerns in densely built-up commercial areas of Kolkata, where multi-storey structures, closely situated buildings and heavy traffic can complicate emergency response operations.

Further details regarding possible casualties, property damage and the circumstances that triggered the fire are awaited.
