KOLKATA POLICE ISSUE DURGA PUJA SAFETY GUIDELINES TO PREVENT CROWD-RELATED MISHAPS
November 2, 2026
Kolkata Police have issued a set of safety guidelines for Durga Puja celebrations, urging organisers, visitors and commuters to follow precautionary measures to prevent accidents and manage large crowds across the city. The advisory comes amid preparations for the festive season, when thousands of people visit popular pandals and busy neighbourhoods.
The guidelines emphasise responsible crowd management, unobstructed entry and exit routes, and the need to keep emergency access points clear. Puja organisers have been advised to ensure that arrangements inside and around pandals do not create congestion or obstruct the movement of visitors.
Police have also stressed the importance of following instructions from personnel deployed at crowded locations and avoiding unnecessary pushing, rushing or attempts to move against the direction of pedestrian traffic. Visitors are encouraged to remain alert, particularly when travelling with children, elderly people and individuals who may require assistance.
The advisory further underlines the importance of maintaining fire-safety precautions and ensuring that emergency services can reach pandals and surrounding areas without delay. Organisers are expected to cooperate with police and other authorities in implementing the prescribed safety arrangements.
With large gatherings expected throughout the celebrations, Kolkata Police have appealed to the public to observe the guidelines and cooperate with security personnel. The objective is to ensure that the festivities remain safe, orderly and free from preventable mishaps
