NADIGRAM VOTE PASSES UNDER POLITICAL SHADOW AS SUKANTA MAJUMDAR AND CM SUVENDU ADHIKARI CALLS POLLING PEACEFUL

October 6, 2026

The Nandigram bypoll in West Bengal has drawn political attention amid allegations of irregularities, even as state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar and CM Suvendu Adhikari described the polling process as peaceful and largely orderly.

The constituency witnessed heightened political activity during voting, with rival parties closely monitoring the process and raising allegations concerning the conduct of polling in certain areas. Election authorities and security personnel remained deployed across the constituency to maintain law and order and ensure that voting proceeded without major disruption.

Majumdar defended the conduct of the election, maintaining that polling remained peaceful despite the political tension surrounding the contest. His assessment, however, came against claims from opposition parties that irregularities had occurred during the voting process.

The competing accounts have placed renewed focus on the role of election officials and security forces in maintaining confidence in the electoral process. Any complaints regarding polling procedures are expected to be examined through the mechanisms available under election law.

Nandigram remains one of Bengal’s most politically significant constituencies, and the bypoll has once again highlighted the intense rivalry between competing political forces in the state.

With the voting phase completed, attention will now turn towards the scrutiny of complaints, the counting process and the eventual verdict of the electorate.
